Can somebody help me with the French?

Hello!
I would like to edit Shamate to include File:Smart_kids-011.jpg. If possible, add it in with the caption "Example of Shamate fashion" translated to French.
Merci beaucoup, QuickQuokka (discuter) 25 janvier 2025 à 18:18 (CET)
- Hi
- As you know how to edit, why don't you do it yourself?
- The caption would be « Example de mode Shamate ».
- Trizek bla 25 janvier 2025 à 19:20 (CET)
- @Trizek: Well, I do know how to edit and add the picture, but I do not speak French, so I wanted an actual French person to do the translation, because I frankly do not trust Google Translate or other machine translation. Thanks for your help! QuickQuokka (discuter) 26 janvier 2025 à 07:12 (CET)
- @QuickQuokka you should try DeeepL, pretty efficient. RawWriter (discuter) 22 mai 2025 à 13:11 (CEST)

IBM System/23 Datamaster article, I seek collaborators
Hello, sorry for writing in English. I would like to assist in the creation of the article for this computer, but I don't know French. I can provide resources and knowledge. My idea would be to import the Catalan article and translate it to French. Please, could anybody help? Thank you in advance. Buran Biggest Fan (discuter) 20 avril 2025 à 12:25 (CEST)
- Hello
- This is the place where to speak English, no apologies needed! :D
- My best advice would be to use Spécial:ContentTranslation, as the ca <-> fr machine translation works pretty well. You would then publish it as a draft (under
Utilisateur:Buran Biggest Fan/Brouillon
) so that someone would review it. - Trizek bla 20 avril 2025 à 15:44 (CEST)
- I am experiencing some problems. The content translation page doesn't seem to work, the paragraphs are just copied instead of being in French. That or I am doing something very wrong. Buran Biggest Fan (discuter) 20 avril 2025 à 16:07 (CEST)
- Okay. I have gone through the translation, but only a small portion of it has been translated and the rest seems to have been discarded. Sorry for being a noob. Buran Biggest Fan (discuter) 20 avril 2025 à 16:42 (CEST)
- No worries, we all experienced that learning curve.
- At Spécial:ContentTranslation, when you create a new translation, you see three columns:
- on the left is the source
- the middle one shows your work
- on the right are several options -- here you can find the translation options, which may be set to "use the original text". Try using a translation engine.
- I'll delete your sandbox so that you can start over.

- Thank you very much Buran Biggest Fan (discuter) 20 avril 2025 à 17:38 (CEST)
Help with French article
Hello French Wikipedia and thank you for your English language forum. I am working on translating an article, using my very poor French and a digital translator into French Wikipedia code. The article is the English language article "New Albion" which is highly rated. I have progressed well only to find myself at a point where it is close to completion with problems I am unable to fix. If someone on French Wikipedia would like to assist me with the article, I would be very grateful. You can find it at the end of my sandbox: https://teknopedia.ac.id/w/index.php?title=User:Hu_Nhu/sandbox&action=edit§ion=17. Please excuse my errors in this post. I look forward to hearing from you.Hu Nhu18 mai 2025 à 02:16 (CEST)
- Hello @Hu Nhu, a few things that you can easily do. In the text formatting of the french Wikipédia, the references are placed before the final end point of a sentence not after. Among other things, your text is currently worded in the past, in frWP, we write in the "Présent de l'indicatif" (in present simple) as if the action is ongoing. For the various sources, "Cite book" model should be translated in the french "Modèle:ouvrage", The "Cite web" model equivalent here is the Modèle:Lien web. in order to avoid the various errors displayed in you sandbox, you need to write your draft in a subpage of your french user page. regards GF38storic (discuter) 18 mai 2025 à 11:13 (CEST)
- Hello Hu Nhu. Writing an article in a language you aren't fluent in is risky; at first glance, your text needs major proofreading; maybe ask for help in the WP:Atelier de relecture. Some wikilinks could be added too.
- To expand on what GF38storic said, the lead section must be in the present tense (see WP:Résumé introductif) and French typography is different from its English counterpart (see WP:Conventions typographiques). References will be converted by a bot, all you have to do is 1) make sure their language parameter is defined and 2) translate the dates in French. Cheers — Vega (discuter) 18 mai 2025 à 15:45 (CEST)
- Hi, I second the fact that "writing an article in a language you aren't fluent in is risky". For instance, your current draft uses past tense while it should use present, in a narrative form. I'm afraid that a digital translator may not grasp that subtility. Trizek bla 19 mai 2025 à 14:51 (CEST)
- Hi Trizek, this is actually a misconception, our articles can use the past tense, after the lead section (see Wikipédia:Style encyclopédique#Impersonnel). A bit of "imparfait du subjonctif" here and there makes for some diversity ;-) — Vega (discuter) 19 mai 2025 à 15:28 (CEST)
- True!
- « Un article utilise généralement le présent de vérité générale dans le résumé introductif, ainsi que le présent historique (présent de narration) pour mettre en évidence un épisode particulier de la narration en alternance avec d'autres temps : passé composé ou simple, imparfait, plus-que-parfait et futur historique. »
- I'm saying it as Hu Nhu's draft only uses past tense, with no alternance, a frequent issue with machine translation. Trizek bla 19 mai 2025 à 18:18 (CEST)
- Thank you everyone. I deeply appreciate your attention to this. I will do what I can to the article and keep it in my sandbox for now. The article is from the English Wikipedia page New Albion and it highly rated. I believe I will require the assistance of a native or fluent French language speaker, and if any might know of someone who would be interested in such assisting, please let me know. MOst kind regards. Hu Nhu (discuter) 22 mai 2025 à 03:14 (CEST)
- Not MOst kind looks. I intended, Most kind regards. Hu Nhu (discuter) 22 mai 2025 à 03:15 (CEST)
- Sure!
- I think you should consider copying it to your French Wikipedia sandbox, as it will be easier to find someone to help you locally. Plus, it will show you if the templates are okay. Trizek bla 22 mai 2025 à 12:04 (CEST)
- Thanks very much. Such an obvious idea that I entirely overlooked. Hu Nhu (discuter) 25 mai 2025 à 01:22 (CEST)

"nbsp" visible in read (Lire) view
Hello all! Sometimes i edit visible "nbsp"s that surely are not intended by the authors (i know, there are articles about typographics, about computer languages, about Pages de code and others that deal with nbsp as a subject, i do not vandalize them). I found some articles that are not clear whether the visible nbsp is intended, or that i can not correct, currently:
- Laurent Laurent - i am not sure whether this is the name of the galery
- Modern Baseball - i am not sure whether this is the artist's pseudonym of the author
- Dombondir, Henry Eveleigh, Rochers de Prachov seem to have bare urls that should be replaced by appropriate referencing templates
- Quatrandorite has surely an unvoluntarily visible nbsp, but how do we have to replace it correctly?
, cannot find nbsp !-Yes, its hidden in first view. Becomes visible only when/after clicking the "[+]" for "Classe de Strunz"!
Spécial:Diff/226456753
- Marcel Fournier (homme d'affaires) has more syntax issues
- Composite (patron de conception) (in PHP5 code) the nbsp might be voluntarily visible, and in Server Side Includes this is quite probable

- Thank you Himbeerbläuling, I have a look. It may result of "copy and past" action. --Pa2chant.bis (discuter) 4 juin 2025 à 12:39 (CEST)
- Fait en partie, j'en laisse pour les autres, il ne faut pas être égoïste. --Pa2chant.bis (discuter) 4 juin 2025 à 13:05 (CEST)
- @Himbeerbläuling & Pa2chant.bis : Il ne semble pas y avoir d'autres occurrences dans les articles (There do not appear to be any other occurrences in the articles) [1]
- Une recherche dans le dump serait sans doute préférable, mais j'ai la flemme.

Possible duplicate
Could Albert Cahen (pédagogue) and Albert Cahen (escrime) be the same person? If not, at least one article seems to have wrong life dates. Thank you! --Emu (discuter) 12 juin 2025 à 10:47 (CEST)
- Thank you Emu.
- I've looked a bit at the first one authority control and couldn't find anything interesting. The second one is unknown, except for his participation in the 1900 Olympics.
- Whatever happens, the fencer, whether a real person or not, is not well-known enough to be the subject of an article on wp.fr.
- I have added a notability banner, the problem will probably be resolved in less than a year (at least here).
- Have a nice day, Şÿℵדαχ₮ɘɼɾ๏ʁ 12 juin 2025 à 14:39 (CEST)
